Instrumental and choral music programmes
Kenmore State School has a strong music programme with music specialists visiting the school. The strings, band and choir teachers co-ordinate a wide variety of opportunities for our students.
The purpose of instrumental and choral music at Kenmore is to provide students with the chance to experience the joy of making and understanding music.
Through participation in the music programmes, students have the opportunity to develop:
an enjoyment of making music
self-esteem and confidence
a sense of commitment and purpose
teamwork and performance skills.
Free tuition is provided in school hours for:
band program: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, euphonium, tuba and percussion including drums, melodic percussion and auxiliary percussion
strings program: violin, viola, cello and double bass.
A wind and percussion band, various string ensembles, and a junior and senior choir are formed from the participating students. In these groups, the students can develop their skills in a fun atmosphere under the guidance of their teachers. These ensembles prepare the children for various public performance opportunities.
The school ensembles perform at various competitions and events throughout the year and individuals have the opportunity to audition for intensive music camps.
